Janus Program

What is Janus?

Janus is a program of teaching training for research students at ANU. Students choose which components of Janus they wish to take. Each component contributes points towards completion of Janus.

Completion of Janus requires completion of 100 points. At least 25 points must come from each of the three different 'streams': theory, practice, and reflection.

Janus Elements

Here are the current elements of Janus, and their associated points and streams. The structure of Janus allows for the inclusion of new elements, or the incorporation of other activities.

Element Points Stream
Graduate Teaching Program 25 Practice
Workshops (half-day) 3 Practice
Workshops (full-day) 6 Practice
Theory Online (per module) 8 Theory
Teaching Interest Group 15 Theory or Practice or Reflection

Selecting your own 100 points of components for Janus is like selecting 100 jelly beans of different colours. You can choose more of the ones you like most. Like all good lolly shops, you can also pick a pre-mixed bag of jelly beans. Pinnacle is a pre-selected mixture of teaching training:

Know of an existing program in your area that could be incorporated into Janus? Then let us know at RSDC.

Assessment

Each element of Janus includes assessment, usually of the form of a reflective report based on the activity. The required report for each element is available below.
