Theory Online

Thank you for your patience as we continue to develop the Theory Online modules. At present, three modules are available.

What is Theory Online?

Theory Online is a collection of modules designed to help prepare research students for the teaching component of an academic career. Each module focusses on particular aspect of teaching and learning, and guides the participant through some of the issues.

Although aimed at research students, many practising academics may find the modules useful.

Research students who complete an online module can count it towards the Janus program.

It is expected that each module takes 8-10 hours to complete, though this may vary from person to person.

What are the modules?

Current modules available:

Proposed modules:
  • Giving lectures
  • Evaluation
  • Online learning
  • Alignment

How do I get started?

  • Join the "Theory Online" Alliance site.
  • Choose which module you wish to do. We suggest everyone begins with Student Learning.
  • Tell your choice, so we can add you to the module group.
  • Work your way through the module material and activities. Most modules take around 8-10 hours to complete.
  • When you submit your assignment, we'll check that it and your postings are satisfactory.
